Our trip to the Hedgehog Centre

Our trip to the Hedgehog Centre

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, we were with our teacher Mrs. Ridder at the Hedgehog Center in Laatzen. We are class 4a, the hedgehog class. That's why we naturally wanted to learn more about hedgehogs. We took the train from school. Before we went to the hedgehog centre, we went to a playground nearby. There we had breakfast. Afterwards we could play, romp and collect chestnuts. Mrs. Busch greeted us at the Hedgehog Centre and told us a lot about hedgehogs. We were allowed to consider whether a hedgehog was allowed to eat various things. Insects, for example, are part of his food. Apples, carrots and bread, on the other hand, are not for him. We also learned how to help a hedgehog in the garden. For example, you can set up a shallow bowl of fresh water and leave a pile of leaves and twigs as a hiding place. If a hedgehog looks injured or sick, you should ask the hedgehog centre together with an adult what to do. We also saw a stuffed hedgehog and took a close look at its spines. We were even allowed to touch a single hedgehog spine ourselves and prick our skin very lightly. We noticed that it doesn't hurt at all when touched carefully. The best thing was that we were allowed to pet a real hedgehog at the end. After all, you don't do that every day! We were able to look at him up close and he also looked us in the face. That was so cute! We had a donation with us for the Hedgehog Centre. A total of 100 euros was collected! Many thanks to everyone who donated something. The Hedgehog Centre was very happy about it. Afterwards we took the train back to school. We had a lot of fun on the trip. Thanks to Mrs. Busch for showing and explaining so much to us!
